According to VideoCardz, Nvidia has begun inviting journalists to an event at Gamescom, where the company will launch its next generation of graphics cards, including the GeForce GTX 1180. A specific date and time is not known just yet, but it seems that the time is close...

...The Nvidia GeForce GTX 1180 is likely going to be able to handle gameplay at 4K with a 144Hz refresh rate. With current hardware, you'd need a 1080p display to get that frame rate, or you can do 4K at 60Hz. According to The Verge, it will include 3,584 CUDA cores, a 1.6GHz to 1.8GHz clock speed, and up to 16GB of GDDR6 memory...

Already? I only got my machine just under 3 years when my 980ti was top of the tree. Cost me a small fortune but it already seems to be lagging far far behind. I'd imagine this new card will smoke the current 1080 cards.

This kind of news should be taken with a grain of salt and labeled as rumour.

    More 1180 Information

The Nvidia 1180 (possibly other 11xx series) GPU's WILL be released on July 31. "VideoCardz" has the latest information on this.

Walking across the floor of Nangang and talking to various industry people, NVIDIA will be launching their next-gen GeForce GTX 1180 graphic card on July 30, 2018.

July 30 isn’t too far away and my sources were very clear about July 30. I asked multiple people and more than one confirmed it was less than two months away, with July 30 specifically being mentioned by multiple of my sources.
Expect to see the 2080 series of GPU's in Q3-Q4 2019. That of course is less of a 'confirmation' than the 1180's.

Those looking to score a 'top end or close to it' gaming GPU but don't want to shell out $700.00 (~ base price) for the 1180xx should wait until they are released and then pick-up a 1080ti.

I will wait and dive in during the late Fall. By then it is time for a Ryzen 2nd gen or 2nd end Threadripper CPU to replace my Ryzen 7 1800x as well as a new X470 mobo and a few M2 drives....the usual upgrade for me :)
