I'll have a look at that, I've been going through the settings again today to see if I've missed anything, I've done a re-install of Grammarly and that seems to have started working again not sure yet about the others.

It's possible that before now, you didn't have "KB4134661 (Notification of an improved privacy experience on upgrade to the Windows 10 April 2018 release)" installed.

In my experience, 1709 will not update to 1803 until that, or a succeeding CU (in your case KB4284822) has been installed. That's why they're called cumulative updates - if you miss one, the next one includes what you missed.
Conversely, on the MS pages describing CUs, it usually states

"If you installed earlier updates, only the new fixes in this package will be downloaded and installed on your device."

You'll never know for certain, as 1803 will wipe out the 1709 updates in Control Panel's list of Installed Updates and the Update History - if 1803 installs successfully, don't worry about it!

Well it failed for the 4th time yesterday. But I had only disabled my AV. I will try completely uninstalling the AV first and give it another go today.
The trouble with a multi-boot it doesn't always change systems that easily and often W10 will then send every partition into a paroxysm of chkdsk which drives me insane (or further insane....LOL).

Well not here. I have no idea what's stopping it and why, if it fails - which it has 5 times now, does it have to leave so much garbage behind? I don't know what's going on at MS these days but it isn't impressive.
