Simple, don't charge the non-existent sales tax.

People are overstating the problem. Employers already have software that allows them to determine state and local tax withholding, based on the address of an employee. That same software can easily be extended to sales taxes.

I am afraid us guys from EU will have no sympathy for our US cousins as we have had to pay approx 20% VAT for years.

It's fair. It's a sales tax, which everyone pays at a brick and mortar store anyway. Why should Internet sales be exempt?

This will not even be a blip on the radar of big sellers like Amazon, but small guys like eBay sellers could be affected. I suppose eBay will do it for the sellers, for a small price.

When the big cities and the Feds see all that money, they'll want a piece of the action. Look for municipal and Fed bills to charge Fed taxes on Internet sales.
