You people don't realize how good you have it. I am stuck with an ISP that is a telephone coop co. They charge me $137 per month for 20 megs plus charge an additional $38 per month for telephone I can't use because I can no longer speak due to throat cancer. They say that I can't drop the landline without giving up internet service. some kind of rule having to do with cooperatives. Only other option is satellite which won't work because no signal due to all the trees in my area. So be happy with what you have.

I am truly sorry for your situation. We in the USA have among the most deplorable internet and telecommunications service in the world. When you compare our record with much smaller countries around the globe, we are a joke. All of us should have telephone and internet service that is above the rest. Our government is responsible. It’s not economics, it’s greed and as long as the wealthy have what they want, the remaining population be damned. ATT and VERIZON are the monopoly holders.

Marty, I think the answer is more economics than politics. I live in a very rural area. Last population figures I saw was 1200 people spread over a large farming and timber growth area. To lay Fiber Optic cable over that area would cost a huge amount with only a base of 1200 people (not homes) to recover the costs. And that is if everyone here actually bought it, which you know isn't going to happen. So, it is not economically feasible. So, I am stuck with a bonded DSL getting 24 megs at best for $50 a month. That is the max copper can handle. If they could deliver 100 megs, how much more than $50 per month do you suppose they could get to offset the cost? Not much more, believe me.
Thanks for your answer. This is definitely the greater factor over politics. Although politics of the rich definitely play a part. I have lived on islands for more than 16 years, all over the south pacific and caribbean, and for this exact reason, internet has almost exclusively been dial up still, and you pay by the minute, which is very expensive. And the reason is the sparse population. Great answer, reminding me of this factor. Thanks!

Could be a snag at last moment, usually there's a build every 4 -5 internal but this is already 8th we know of and a nice round build number.
