Wow! Where do you live? It's amazing that an updated better internet is only 50 mbps. We get 100 mbps standard. This country needs a serious update to our entire internet system. Most countries overseas have much, much, much faster standard internet than we do.
I guess I didn't make myself clear. I switched from ATT that can only provide around 15 mbps over copper wire to Fidelity cable. Their base is 50 mbps, which is plenty fast for me. I chose not to go for more speed because I don't want to pay extra for something I don't need.

This is the US, Smactilactus, which means most rural areas are tied to copper wiring. We're lucky that Fidelity comes out this far with cable.

The only answer to your remark would have to be political so I'll refrain from that.

Marty, I think the answer is more economics than politics. I live in a very rural area. Last population figures I saw was 1200 people spread over a large farming and timber growth area. To lay Fiber Optic cable over that area would cost a huge amount with only a base of 1200 people (not homes) to recover the costs. And that is if everyone here actually bought it, which you know isn't going to happen. So, it is not economically feasible. So, I am stuck with a bonded DSL getting 24 megs at best for $50 a month. That is the max copper can handle. If they could deliver 100 megs, how much more than $50 per month do you suppose they could get to offset the cost? Not much more, believe me.

Wynona, Comcast/Xfinity just had a free increase in speed north of Houston to 250mbs. I'm getting better then 300 most nights.

Sounds close to the area I live in where cows outnumber humans by 2 to 1 at least. The local phone coop has a near monopoly on Internet access - some people can't even get DSL service. However they tell me I'll e able to get fiber in 2-4 years. A few select areas have already.
