But let me show you for your education something that proves the irresponsible qualities of MS Windows 10 designers/updators.
I mentioned to you how the Tuesday update clobbered my 32 apps after the update has finished over night, Well I discovered how that happened in a misleading and confusing prompt from the "Device performance and Health" ALERT , that guided me to a screen where it suggested to click on a REFRESH button, explaining , that an app (SINGLE) that is causing the ERROR ALERT, the action will FIX the error.

I didn't have any prior complaints on anything going wrong. Windows defender's DICTATORIAL and erratic detection and resolution suggested to REFRESH without loss of any personal files or Application. If this isn't the most misleading and irresponsable UI prompt, nothing else is.

For a Fresh Start it clearly states that "This will keep your personal files and some Windows settings and remove some of your apps.". What's misleading about that? It did exactly what it said it would do.

Misleading is when it says " SOME Applications", in my case it wiped out ALL of my 32 apps, the only apps it didn't delete was EDGE and EXPLORER. Removing "SOME" in the english language ( I assume you're British) does not mean "ALL". But come to think of it, you might be right, MS did not mislead, it intended to wipe out applications that compete with theirs!

I ran this over the weekend and yes it basically brings you back to a stock Windows 10. It does keep all your current drivers intact which is a mess as some have to be reinstalled to work properly or they don't work right (chipset, graphics). All third party apps are removed. Since there are driver issues best thing to do is just to boot from the W10 Media Creation tool, format all the C: partitions and start over.

After trying this I restored my Macrium Image backup and I was back to normal.

No, Microsoft are quite egalitarian about it. The apps that are kept are those that are part of Windows itself. 'SOME' in this context means all apps that don't come with Windows - that includes their own Microsoft Office which will get wiped along with everything else.

BTW, Egalitarian is not the antonym of Dictatorial, Microsoft without a doubt ever since the introduction of windows 10 has been forcing upon users its will without the consent of the users in many instances , the issue of the 'misleading UI' ( by oversight or by design) is one of the many instances and counting ! That said, I have no beef against you as a person, you seem to be a patient and pleasant fellow , but you need to recognize there is nothing perfectly introduced since DOS2 up to windows 10, and if Microsoft keeps on ignoring these 'slips' additional to its own primitive browsers and apps it only will make the dismay grow to implosion. I'm sorry to drag this up again, but the recommendation was not to do a Refresh. You didn't open and read the actual recommendation which was to run the reliability troubleshooter.

The last time I used fresh start it didn't fix the underlying problem I was having so I ended up performing a clean install afterwards.
