Ugh... Microsoft need to seriously fix this restart pending/scheduled because this is getting on my effin' nerves.

This update did not go so well.

My notification center keep saying a restart is scheduled, but I restarted 3 times already ?

Yes, it's a bug. You need to wait for a blue message to pop up saying something about a system restart during your off-hours, or do some registry tweaks or some other nonsense for it to disappear.

I've solved the problem of failed kb4284835 install like this:

In Windows add-ons (in the following steps):
    - Uncheck .Net FrameWork 4.7 / Press OK
    - Uncheck .Net FrameWork 3.5 / Press OK
    - Recheck .Net FrameWork 3.5 / Press OK
    - Recheck .Net FrameWork 4.7 / Press OK

And then the Magic trick in an administrative Command Prompt window:
    SFC /scannow
I was really thinking that SFC was more a less a deprecated feature. But it is not. It has corrected several minor problems and allowed KB4284835 to install properly without any more glitch.

Windows 10 Pro Desktop and Windows 10 Home Laptop both FAILED.

Used Windows update, then downloaded the standalone update. Both failed.
The install in Windows went fine, then during the reboot shut-down completed to 30%, rebooted and then on returning to the install failed at 100%, "We couldn't complete the updates. Undoing Changes"!!!!!

    Ran sfc /scannow and Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth.
Cortana, which I disabled was restored, but nothing else needed repair.
    Still failed, same Error 0x800f0922
Ran a repair install, and checked for updates before installing.
Am now running 17134.112. Had to do it like that on our 2 laptops as well!
But I should not have to do it that way!

Auto update checked and downloaded the updates for bld. 17134.112 at 10:17 AM EST today. I clicked the "Restart Now" button on the settings page at 1:13 PM EST and the system finished the update and restart at 1:23 PM EST. No issues so far. For some reason auto update is now running on this system for the first time in four updates.

    @storageman,

If you set your feedback frequency via group policy, then yes it would gray out the setting in Settings.

I imagine if you undo whatever you did it will then behave like the way it now does for me.

I left it alone cause I wanted to see if they would return it to the way it was before and now they have.

Still waiting for the "set defaults by app" issue to get fixed. Come on Microsoft.

    This fixed it for me.
    Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\RegisteredApplications
Backup the key first and delete one by one until it stops crashing.

I know in my case it is caused by the Sumatra PDF application. I guess for other people it may be something else. If I uninstall Sumatra, set defaults by app works.

Would deleting an installed Sumatra's registry key make it work with set defaults by app?
Sounds like something I am wary to try. Or I guess maybe this can help one figure out the app that is causing it and then it must be uninstalled if one wants a working set defaults by app?

Anyways, hope M can fix this soon.
