Have done the same as you....
Has it shown on Disk Management its removal? ie:- freed up disk space.
    Disk cleanup did the job.
After that Free up just showed Defender and a couple bits for temp files.

I just don't understand why free up , was frozen up.

I mean when I first opened it, it showed nothing(0 bytes), it didn't even start to search.
I prefer to use that, because I have had Disk cleanup leave behind 0 byte folders before, and the are a pain to remove, requiring command prompt.
But using free up in settings, since it has been there, has been absolutely reliable.

OMG! Three of my computers that have finished installing 17686 actually have SETS enabled/functional/working. I am almost afraid to do anything, else it might decide to go away and play hide and seek as in the past couple of builds!

Mine now wants a restart, but I'm going to leave it until tomorrow.

Yes, except it does not work. I still have black cursor in Command Prompt which makes it invisible, as well as in PowerShell where it can be barely seen.
I am sorry you are still having problems with that Kari - I checked and cursor is clearly visible, but I am not using an alternate color scheme.

Cliff.... my question is although Disk Cleanup is supposed to have removed Windows old....did your SSD or HDD show the increased or regained space after its deletion?

Mine doesn't.....it now has some extra 30GB installed on it....in other words either Windows Old has not been erased or my SSD is giving a false reading.

The space on the SSD that my VM's are on(including their VHD's) got freed up, so yeah.

All went well as expected. Set defaults by app is now working.

I usually clear windows.old via disk cleanup but decided to try Storage this time. It was saying the backup install was taking 25.6GB but windows.old was only 5GB in File Explorer. Only rats and mice in other deletables. After it finished, C: was smaller by 19GB. Bit hard to reconcile the figures, but never mind.

Still had to use cmd prompt to remove the windows.old folder as there was the one folder (Cortana rubbish) still left. This is normal, though.

All done. Everything loaded very quickly still. But I don't know exactly how long, as I was off in another room while it was doing it. Both times I came back to it already being done. I would guess it was under 30 min's total, but can't say for sure this time.
Everything appears to be working, but my main concern will still be Bluetooth, as they seem to work on any tiny insignificant thing, and completely ignore their terrible BT functionality. So I don't expect it to be improved at all. As of right now it is working, but who knows for how long...

Using a brand spanking new Vmware WS VM with an offline login I linked a Microsoft account which is registered with the Insider program and am downloading now. I'll make an ISO, then boot in the physical machine running build 17682 and update that by hook or by crook
