Intel teases 28-core CPU at Computex 2018 for Q4 2018

Intel launched an 18-core CPU last year, and at Computex 2018 the company served up a teaser for a 28-core single-socket CPU that's launching later this year.

Intel didn't share a lot of details regarding the upcoming CPU, but it did run a live demo during the presentation of the processor crunching through Cinebench R15. The 28-core CPU netted a score of 7334, which is pretty fantastic...

    28 cores?
That would be like an 81xx series Xeon Platinum scalable server cpu
The would be great for @Kari and all of his VM's to boot up with Windows every time(with a 128 GB RAM added in).

I guess one difference would be, they won't have ECC supported RAM.

I don't think Threadripper 2 has much to worry about when it comes to multicore performance.

Looks like Intel was cheating a bit by using phasechange cooling in order to get higher clocks and a high score as a result.

Looks like AMD will release a 32-core Threadripper.

"When we were bringing out 16-core, we already had on the drawing board the 32-core," AMD's Jim Anderson said in an interview. "That's one of the reason it can drop into the same TR4 socket, is because up front we had that in mind."

    Oh!
Tech Jesus Steve just debunked the demo, and savagedly

    information   Information

    Key points:

The CPU is old. It is not some new 28C CPU, as everyone would have you believe. It's a Xeon from the existing lineup of SKY-X -- almost certainly the 8176, specifically. This is NOT A NEW PRODUCT.

Secondly, it required a chiller to hit 5.0GHz and sub-zero temperatures, but almost all of the coverage would lead you to believe a stock or very achievable 5GHz speed. Very misleading by all accounts.
