    @ Brink,
Only a couple of years ago, people would laugh at me when I inquired about a gaming laptop. "Get a desktop if you want a gaming computer". They said.
Realising that technology has had quantum leaps each and every year, I suppose gaming laptop is at par with desktop nowadays ?

Laptops have certainly come a long way for gaming. The main issue with gaming on a laptop is keeping it cool which is much easier to do with a desktop.

There certainly was gaming branded laptops 10 years ago, but I'd say they became suitable for gaming only 3 or so years ago when the chipset manufacturers managed to make uncompromized graphics processors that can compete with the desktop GPUs in (normal) gaming performance. Before that you could easily fork out double the amount of dough just to get similar performance of a desktop, and even then the laptop was very susceptible to overheating and thermal throttling while gaming. The compromize for this was fan noise levels up the wazoo. It's still a problem, but no way near what they were few years back. This era of gaming laptops are actually pretty darn good for both acoustics Db and temps (can't speak for this HP lappy though), and you can hook up an eGPU on most modern lappies aswell. I still prefer desktops because I like to custom build my machines.

Based on the above 2 inputs, what is the advantage of, and hence the marketing value of manufacturing gaming laptops ?

Currently Own the previous Model 2017 HP Omen Gaming Laptop 15 inch, and have to say it keeps up with my Desktop very well in terms of gaming, just keeping it cool sometimes a challenge, Sometime getting a Cooling pad for it, and then will game longer on it, like I do the Desktop Machine
