Microsoft Edge Experiment: Battery Life | Windows 10 April 2018 Update

What happens when three identical devices run different browsers? The Microsoft Edge team wanted to find out. This experiment showed that battery life on a PC running Microsoft Edge lasts 98% longer than Mozilla Firefox and 14% longer than Google Chrome.

    Nice!

Edge is quite energy efficient. I've been using if for watching YouTube videos on my laptop for the last 6months. No issues at all.

To be honest, I've almost forgot that I have Chrome installed.

Never trust biased tests. They will always try to make their browsers look better than the competition. Look up tests by users and enthusiasts instead, they will tell a clearer picture.

Unless you are using a notebook or laptop this test is not applicable to a PC.

I trust my own experience and the test just confirms what I already knew.

Yep - MS would get slaughtered if they could not backup their claims. Of course any benchmark test is only as good as the tests used.

So true. Ofcourse different devices have slightly different battery life. As the title states, this is an experiment, not an official test. Nevertheless, it still gives a good picture of where Edge is at regarding battery consumption. That 98% for Firefox is a HUGE difference, but Edge vs Chrome could have gone either way.

This is part of the reason I gave Edge another try recently. I used to use Opera with its Battery Saver feature but after trying out Edge it seemed to last longer so I've stuck with it. Edge has really come a long way since its introduction and it has become a pretty solid browser in my opinion.

Yes. And now that there are more extensions (plug-ins) available I am recommending it for the average laptop/notebook user. The same for default Windows 10 pictures and videos players (they are quite efficient battery-wise).
