Didn't think about that, but now that you mention it, I'm wondering why I didn't... Thanks.

I set up my downloads folder on a separate drive, so download everything to that instead of the one Windows provides. It's safer that way.
Same here, Larc, but I'm not your general John Q. Public. So many of my friends and family don't even consider separate drives, much less backups!

It's a #itch that so many have lost all the files in their download folder, but really, you have at least three opportunities to uncheck the download folder from being emptied during the cleanup process, and a final warning, asking if you really want to delete all of the files. So, where is the real problem? it's with the user not paying attention to what they are doing, when cleaning up drive space.
A little judgmental, dontcha think, Tews? Especially since this is something new that Microsoft just recently added to Windows 10 without telling us about it!

I just checked and it's even in my RTM version 17134.48! This is going to create havoc with John Q. Public.

I don't have anything in my Downloads folder because I put everything on an external. That doesn't excuse Microsoft from including my personal files with the trash to be thrown out!

@Wynona, Downloaded Program Files has always been in Disk Clean-up since Windows XP. That's not the same thing than Downloads and does not empty %userprofile%\Downloads folder when selected.

Downloaded program files are ActiveX controls and Java programs that are downloaded automatically from the Internet when you view certain pages. These files are temporarily stored in the Downloaded Program Files folder on the hard disk.

Noticed that right click on File Explorer (pinned icon) on Taskbar doesn't work as it was before, not showing pinned items, but it still showing on Quick Access.

At least for me on all computers.

This is an Insider forum dealing with Beta software with all its faults and quirks.....not something released to John Public to worry about.....Attentiveness by some does seem to be lacking regarding Disk Clean UP....though I do agree the option to delete Downloads is an error by M$ in said program....Judging by amount of complaints on this subject one would expect it to be rectified on next flight.
Ummmm, Dencal, I beg to differ. Today I'm working in my RTM partition, so of course, checked to see what's what with Disk Cleanup.

    OMGosh, here's what I found!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Agreed, Dencal. The Insider thread is the place to deal with Beta faults and quirks, hence the discussion. Not only is this option out in the wild, it is still in Insider builds, Fast and Skippy. And, there is no separate check box for it. It is grouped under temporary files. It's difficult to separate this ongoing MS error in judgement from the public error in judgment. They are, currently, one and the same. If not corrected or modified in the Insider program, it may well continue in the public build, where it is far more difficult to deal with. So it's not a matter of worry on the public build side as much as concern this will continue if not corrected.

Same here...I think this is for lots of people. Also unable to pin anything to the File Explorer icon on the taskbar. Hopefully this will be fixed this week.
