All this reminded me of this paragraph of the Windows Insider Program Agreement:

    Attachment 189847
True. Meant for gltch loss and accidental beta induced loss or corruption. Not intentional. It's sitting in 1803 right now as an option. What if it is misunderstood? What if it is interpreted as MS can figure out what I don't need or want after a day, a week, a month in my downloads. That is impossible. It's live right now, in SCU.

It's also an option in this build, that checkbox (Downloads) is not marked by default, you must mark it.

I understand, believe me, I understand. There are a vast number of users out there who may choose the wrong thing for what they think is the right reason. It is more than just a little dangerous for the average user. That's all I'm saying.

Still, as somebody said on this thread, it's unconscionable to include any of the users' files in Disk Cleanup. My opinion of course. Microsoft disagrees - but why?

[What about the folder Found.000? Has anyone found a way to delete it? I have taken over permissions, and still can't get rid of it. It's just supposed to be file fragments from diskdefrag, but if that's the case, why can't we delete its contents? You can struggle with Windows or just grab unlocker
I've tried Unlocker, but it didn't work. Any other idea's? Unless my Unlocker is old...

It's a #itch that so many have lost all the files in their download folder, but really, you have at least three opportunities to uncheck the download folder from being emptied during the cleanup process, and a final warning, asking if you really want to delete all of the files. So, where is the real problem? it's with the user not paying attention to what they are doing, when cleaning up drive space.
That's because it seemed unfathomable that M$ would put our personal files and folders in there!!!!! For years, there was no personal files or folders in there, so why would anyone check????? We have been lulled into thinking it was perfectly safe to click it to get rid of Windows.old and temp files. So you can't blame that on the users!!!!!

But I wonder how the item got ticked. Looked at mine and no item, incl Downloads, was ticked.

But, of course, Insiders have images as backup so not sure why the files are lost!

Yes, the Downloads folder shouldn't be there but it is up to us to know what should be ticked, surely.

...Again, NO, because people do NOT look at what they are checking because they never have had to. It has always been old windows installations and temp files and folders. For decades, I click, click, click and NEVER lost any personal data. After years of doing something, Pavlov can't expect anyone to be paying attention to what they are checking now! Especially with NO fore warning.

And by the way, I really don't understand why you guys can't seem to grasp the point that this isn't about US? Most if not all of us have backups, or have relocated these folders. But the arguments we are making is for John Q public, who does not have any backups, and doesn't know any better, before being burned.

I do look at what's marked for cleanup, partly because I don't want to delete everything (Thumbnails and DirectX Shader cache), they get rebuilt every time anyway. I also don't mark 0bytes items, that can shorten disk cleanup time considerably.
One thing I'm not sure about, are all marked or unmarked items cleaned up with automatic maintenance process or just some ?
