There is an alternative method to Disk Clean Up....Storage in Settings give options.
Can anyone explain the thinking behind this? If they just clean up WU files fine... but our own downloads? This is unbelievable.

Notwithstanding the alternatives... the majority of users will not expect personal files/folders to be included in what's essentially a system clean-up.

In my case not this time. Had downloaded a bunch of 1803 images, both bit architectures and four language versions. I usually move ISO images and other important stuff either to OneDrive or NAS, for a reason unknown to me hadn't done it with these ISO images (see my tweet above).

In my opinion, the whole idea of cleanmgr.exe is to clean disk removing unnecessary, no longer required system files and folders. Adding any user data to that list is just wrong.

    I agree completely Kari.

Perhaps there is time to correct this in Build 17777 \for release this week.

I try to make a system backup before any major updates. I say try because there have been a few times I got so excited that I didn't even think about backing up until it was to late. :)

Ughh - that is a really bad change. I always regarded stuff in disk cleanup as temporary crap. Now I will have to remember to UNTICK that option, when I select everything else.

I am going to complain on feedback about this really bad change.
Give us a link so we can all upvote your complaint, Cereberus!

I've made it a practice to save my downloads to an external drive, but occasionally when the drive isn't connected, I'll temporarily store a download on the C:\ Drive Downloads folder.

I still want to upvote because most likely none the folks I help with their computers will know about this. Yes, I teach disk cleanup because not all hard drives are equal. :)

Sure there is, but can John Q. Public be expected to know that his/her downloads are an endangered species? :)

    Yeah!!!

"We fixed an issue where we foolishly included the Downloads Folder in Disk Cleanup!"
