I'm afraid you're stuck with msi. If they do not issue an updated BIOS, then if Intel says that they do have an updated μcode, your only option is Microsoft. If Intel does not produce an update, then you backup frequently and get extra cautious....or you move to newer technology

@ddelo i hear you there but in between jobs at the moment and moving as well , but hope to get a new job at my new place and then save up enough to get a new PC. looks like i live with it for now at least as far as intel is concerned nothing is beeing exploited as of yet.

Thats good mate. Because they stop supporting older CPUs, pushing us yo buy new ones, doesn't mean that we have to follow. So make your plans and leave that as your lowest priority. Just keep backing up... and don't get crazy with all that stuff.

So does this mean I don't need Dell's bios update to fix the Spectre and Meltdown vulnerability?

If they are available, you definitely need them. If not, then apply the Microsoft updates, backup regularly and be extra cautious

I don't particularly rate that DPC latency checker, it often gives variable results, showing errors on systems that aren't misbehaving.
Believe me, the DPC latency is real, the 0.5-1s mouse/sound freezes are hard to miss

I applaud the fact that you have some kind of regression practice, but to blame the microcode update isn't accurate.
Never blamed the microcode update, I think it's a combination of microcode / MS fixes / USB 2.0 driver + probably PCI driver.
And since not a lot of people are still using USB 2.0 PCI (not PCI-E) cards it probably went unnoticed.

I agree about the MS forums, they'd have you checking your system files and then everyone scratching their heads.
Any ideas on how to get the info to the Microsoft engineers?
