I think I understand why it made my system so slow. I checked the list of processors and mine is not on the list. Nor am I getting it from Windows Update.

According to the Windows Client Guidance, you'll only receive the microcode code update via Windows Update if you had installed the update in 1709 (and, of course, didn't do a clean install of 1803).

Thanks for the information. They have not released a microcode update for my CPU as of yet. Mine has the same ID as one of the server CPU's in this one but it does not say my specific CPU. I will wait until they release one that has my exact CPU in it.

It does no harm to install the microcode update, even if you're not sure if your CPU is included. It contains the released microcode for all supported CPUs, but will only load the microcode if it has the one that matches your CPU. If it doesn't, nothing happens - so no harm done.

Still a little confusing. I already installed the KB microcode update a month or two ago whilst on 1709. Plus my BIOS also got an update around same time to include the fixes. So presume I donít need to bother with this. I donít think the KB was needed at all if the BIOS got updated microcode.

Finally ... got new BIOS (F.24 3/6/2018) for my HP Envy 750-530 (Kaby Lake S / CPUID 906E9). Found it yesterday in the HP Downloads & Drivers for my model and HP Support Assistant found it, however it still shows pending on HPSBHF03573 rev. 13 - Side-Channel Analysis Method | HP¬ģ Customer Support.

Uninstalled KB4100347 and updated BIOS ... Inspectre still shows as patched and good to go. Haven't noticed any performance hit and BIOS Time is still 3.2 secs :)

Correct. If the bios update included the microcode then you are protected. The update is only needed by those who haven't yet had (or never will get) a bios update.

You can check if your protection is working with InSpectre. https://www.grc.com/inspectre.htm

How long did you wait before removing the microcode update? Initially, the microcode update just about brought my Ivy Bridge laptop to a standstill. But as I mentioned in a previous post, the performance gradually increased after several reboots. It's as if the computer needed time to adapt to the changes. When I installed the microcode update on a newer computer, I didn't notice any slowdown whatsoever.

I did install this the day it came out. It slowed my system down like I went from a SSD to an old 5400 spinner or worse. My 2nd PC build nearly 10 years ago was faster than this PC. That and the fact that my CPU is not listed on the update is why I removed it.

I gave it about 20-30 minutes and only rebooted after removing it. I don't see a reason to install it with my CPU not listed on the release notes.
