My guess would be, that they don't check the current microcode before they offer the update, but after it is installed. The reason is either poor design or easier implementation - don't know!
With MS, this is paramount. If they had to analyze first, this thread would be a blood bath.

    Hi,
Doesn't sound like the most secure windows ever if one has to install a security hole patch manually and then it updates

By the way this thread was on page #10 this afternoon I know because I had to look back and find it because of post whore @Brink and all his wonderful news goodies buried it

bummer. I guess the updated microcode for Arrandale & Clarkdale (1st gen) Intel core CPUs have not been implemented in KB4100347 yet.
Good new! … Arrnadale's are updated in RS5 with new microcode. My i5-520M runs with no issues.

The 4K random I/O is impacted in CrystalDiskMark (as it is on everything I've seen using the new Intel microcode including Skylake!) The machine still feels snappy and good to use, its ThinkPad T410 i5-520M.

Yes, I wouldn't worry. I'm going for RS5 right now, been mulling it for a day or two.

Edit: Been looking at ThinkPads to be honest! Itchy trigger finger
