    No it doesn't write anything permanently "in" the CPU. It's microcode loaded at boot time.

    Take a look at this detailed explanation by @Bree

    No, it's not a permanent change to the cpu. At boot the KB4100347 microcode is written to to volatile RAM inside the cpu. This will be lost when the power is turned off, so will have to be be written again at next boot.

    OK according to intel pdf guide I have pre-migration production MCU 0x24 and new production MCU rev 0x25. How to link that with registry values 0,1,2,3...8?

    Thanks!

    Is there a BIOS update from the manufacturer?
    What is you current microcode revision? 0x24 or 0x25?

    If not 0x25, use 8 and 3 in registry.

    Code:
    Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Memory Management]
    "FeatureSettingsOverride"=dword:00000008
    "FeatureSettingsOverrideMask"=dword:00000003

    No troubles at all! I guess 0x24 right? Is it the pre-migration production column or new production MCU column? No BIOS updates I'm afraid...

    Windows update put 0 to enable "FeatureSettingsOverride"...

    I have both keys on "3" in regedit.
    What does this mean ? ( Protected/not protected )...............?

    Use HWinfo to see what revision you have now.
    If it's less than 0x25, then:
    1. Check to a recent update from the manufacturer and if a BIOS is available install it and recheck the newly installed microcode revision.
    2. If no BIOS update is available or if your revision is not 0x25, use the above reg file, with 8 and 3.

    OK, just one last doubt. Why did the update put 0 not 8 on the registry? Because it is generic?

    Also, the InSpectre app doesn't warn me about anything when I have a 0.
