The patch IS from Microsoft. Intel HAVE created the MCUs.

They are updated for Linux (July 3rd). Intel do not do the patch integration, that would be crazy. They have updated the patch and the Xeon Phi's are NOT in the Intel documentation, but they ARE in the MICROSOFT patch! The patch was issued on July 10th!

The Linux data file is not a document (OR for use on a Windows PC 'as is'), the Microcode Revision Guidance document is.

Intel supplies Microsoft with the microcode updates (which are in a single data file), and then Microsoft incorporates the microcode updates into a patch. The patch is needed because Microsoft doesn't provide instructions on how to install the microcode update in Windows. If a particular microcode update is not in the data file, it won't be in the patch.

That's what I was saying, too. And it's what I've been saying on here for months. But you seemed to be accusing me of saying things I didn't say.

There is a lot of response to this update. I updated two pc's and neither are Intel cpu. Was this necessary for me?

Talk about quick and easy! I didn't even have time to multi-task.

No. Your current version of KB4100347 is older that's all. All the updates are not even in it even if you do have Intel!

I wonder why there are options on that InSpectre program to enable/disable meltdown and spectre protection. I'd think you want them always enabled.

Performance penalties come with the mitigation.

They said it wouldn't affect gaming - it does. On my work laptop I won't miss the lost performance, I'd rather batten down the hatches. Perversely, I can control the patching and have not enabled it on the gaming rig and can't on the laptop and want it.

Yea ... you do, but some people experience poor performance with them enabled. Makes it easy for them to disable it.
