I have winver 1803.191 installed. Do I still need this microcode update even though I have the prior one from 5/20 installed as shown in my update history?

If the newer version isn't listed in your update history, then it would be recommended to install the new one from the Microsoft Update Catalog linked on the first page.

I am not sure why MS doesn’t push the microcode update automatically through windows update for those who didn’t install it initially. At the moment there is real uncertainty. I installed the microcode update back on v1709 but have no idea if I need to install it again and then whether to keep on installing it everytime MS seems to revise it. I certainly don’t see a separate entry show up for it when I check for updates. I just got the cumulative update show up last night which then obediently installed. Does it get wrapped up in the other cumulative updates if you already manually installed it many months back (like the service stack updates do)

That's what I'd like to know as well. There's a clear lack of details about what has been revised. I installed the standalone update when it was offered in May. Has the microcode been updated since then or have they added microcode for additional processors that weren't targeted back then? In case of the latter, I could ignore this update. Went ahead and installed it anyway.

As far as I can tell, the only thing that was added were microcode updates for Xeon Phi processors. These are not the new microcode updates that were released by Intel this month.

If I may say, this is becoming a real joke. The reason is while Intel is trying to mitigate old speculative side-channels attacks, new ones are being discovered all the time. The following is just an example:

I think one would be better off waiting until there are new PCs with flawless microprocessors (say Intel i8..) and buy a new one.

Thanks for sharing my opinion..Well, if I may add, it doesn't take a PH degree to see that with the state of affairs, as you put it, we are going nowhere.
