I can confirm that isn't necessarily the case. I got the update by manually checking for updates via WU. And my BIOS is dated 12/27/13(latest beta for MSI Z77 MPower).
    Hi,
I restored a system image and spectre protections are gone so I'll see later on
I'm not due to connect to the internet until windows defender get cranky

Why would anyone manually check for updates when 10 is set to automatic

Some of us like to know and check here on Ten Forums before it does an update.... and do a Macrium Backup 1st :)

My Asus x99A-II on bios 1801 ( 11/2017 ) has just been offered this update even though it already has the 3C MCode update from previous a WinUpdate, when I checked via a batch file I use in Windows.....

I did it specifically to see if I could get KB4100347 through WU actually. Without having to search for and download it from the Microsoft Update Catalog. Just seemed like the quicker/easier option.

Because auto updates can be finicky if a tiered roll out is in progress and a manual trigger gets the most current available.

    Hi,
With the issue with broadwell-e oc'ing being killed with the new microcode update installed might as well show my haswell-e unaffected at 4.6 with it installed :/

Strange. I get KB4100347 installed successfully on September 13th. Do my usual periodic manual check for updates tonight, and there it is again. Downloading installing right now. Weird.

I think these twice-a-month updates has Microsoft's update delivery department in a tizzy.

It's a revision to an existing patch, that is all.

With the following troubleshooting tool from MS you can prohibit an "unwanted" update from installing

I would partly agree with my fellow Greek and namesake...it is hidden (with the tool he described) until the Microsoft geniuses change the prefix of its name, i.e. from "2018-09 Update for Windows 10 Version 1803 for x64-based Systems (KB4100347)" to "2018-10 Update for Windows 10 Version 1803 for x64-based Systems (KB4100347)", in which case it will be offered again!!!
