I have been experiencing screen filter on boot for about a week now. It was only one flicker in the BIOS post (I think that's what it is called) stage. The OEM logo would come up, flicker, then OEM logo and the wheel starts spinning.

After this update this is no longer happening. Could a security microcode patch have anything to do with this issue stopping or was it something else?

Impossible to determine what that specific, transient symptom was.

I have this 4100347 already installed on 16 Mai , when I tried to install the updated (?) 4100347 from this month , I get " this update is already installed" .................???? ( 306C3 CPU-version)

Then it's entirely possible you don't need the newer update as it doesn't contain additional updates for you.

I have my i7-4770 on 0x22 (pre-Spectre) and have all the mitigations disabled, my choice. But I have a revised F9e BIOS for my motherboard direct from Gigabyte eSupport which I've edited to exchange 0x25 to 0x22.

Where earlier did I say this wasn't a complete clusterbomb from Microsoft? :)

To be sure, download the new patch .msu from the head of this thread, disconnect from internet, uninstall KB4100347 from Programs and Features|View Installed Updates and restart then manually install the 2018-08 version, then reconnect to the internet.

Let us know what happens.

(Pretty sure this contains 0x24, just like the older KB4100347 from 2018-05, Intel have released 0x25 as indicated in the 2018-08-08 release of the Intel Microcode Update Advisory SA-00115)

I'd still kind of like to know how that InSpectre utility can judge a degradation in CPU performance from the patch.

It can't but the workaround when activated is longer than with newer instruction sets in newer CPUs. So it is dependent on the task and the horse you have.

Think of it like driving a car around and hitting steep inclines or strong headwinds. Entirely depends on the car and the route you drive.
