I had clean installed both the insider build and everything was fine until 17134.5 and then I also had clean installed the normal april update after release and everything was fine until 17134.48 so I don't know if those two updates were the same or not because one was for insider builds and one was for the normal april update but I do know that they both bricked my yoga laptop. You wouldn't think my laptop would be one of the laptops that has problems with these updates being that its only a year and half old and the specs with the i5 7200u processor is a very very common setup in laptops. What got me I guess you could say over the hump was clean install the april update and let the cumulative updates all install before you do any changes at all to pc . That's what worked for me so that leads me to believe that my problem may have been some of my tweaks or changes that I make to my system .

One pc was on 1709 and another two were on 1803 already. So the 1709 was updated via the iso from MS (I let the setup download all the updates) and the other two pcs were in place upgraded (repair upgrade)
I confirm that reinstalling 1803 (in place upgrade) and then installing 17134.48 worked in one laptop, thank you very much for the suggestion. I'll reinstall 1803 in the other one as well, and I'm confident it will work too.

Clicking on "choose default app" still crashes settings...

UPDATE: New known issue for KB4103721 added to first post.

After upgrading to the Window 10 April 2018 Update, select devices with Toshiba XG4 Series, Toshiba XG5 Series, or Toshiba BG3 Series SSDs may exhibit lower battery life. Microsoft is working with OEM partners and Toshiba to identify and block devices with Toshiba XG5 Series or Toshiba BG3 Series SSDs from installing the April 2018 Update. If you have encountered this issue and cannot wait for the resolution, follow the steps to Go back to your previous version of Windows, and wait for the resolution before attempting to install the April 2018 Update again.

Microsoft estimates the release date for the resolution for this issue to be available in early June.

Hi I've never posted here but I would like to say that when I was on insider builds the cumulative update 17134.5 bricked my pc and then once I stopped the insider preview builds and clean installed the normal April update everything was fine once again until I tried to install 17134.48 cumulative update and yep you guessed it bricked again so I stopped right then and before went any further I just clean installed and tried the cumulative update 17134.48 again before I made any changes and that time it installed . I'm using a Lenovo Yoga 710 with i5 7200u with a Samsung 860 evo m.2 drive . Like I said at the beginning I hope I'm posting at the right place . Just trying to tell my story with these update . You all have nice day.
Nothing 'bricked' your system. When something screws up your boot files such that it won't boot, or is otherwise broken, it sux. 'Bricked', however, means that the firmware is scrambled and corrupted such that the computer is good for nothing except as a brick. You can't reinstall anything. You can't even boot from other media. You are done - your machine is bricked.

People really like to say 'this or that bricked my machine' for some reason. 'Bricked' has a specific meaning. What they really mean is borked

KB4103721 (1803) black screen with rotating circle: potential fix
As many have discovered, installing the KB4103721 rollup to Windows 10 v1803 may result in a black non-responsive login screen with either a rotating circle of white dots or a blue "working" circle. The only way to get your desktop back is to reboot into safe mode, whereupon the update reports it was unable to install and rolls itself back.
If you then use msconfig and disable ALL non-Microsoft services, and reapply the update, you may find that it installs perfectly. This certainly worked for me.
For interest, the non-Microsoft services I disabled were:

    • Apple Mobile Device Server (Apple)
    • ASUS Com Service (ASUS Motherboard)
    • BattleEye Service (ARMA 3)
    • Bonjour Service (Apple)
    • Dropbox Update Service (Dropbox)
    • Google Update Service (Google)
    • iPod Service (Apple)
    • Logitech Gaming Registry Service (Logitech Mouse/Headset)
    • NVIDIA Display Container LS (NVIDIA)
    • NVIDIA Telemetry Container (NVIDIA)
    • OpenSSH Authentication Agent (Cygwin)
    • Steam Client Service (Valve)
    • SyncoveryVSSService (Superflexible)
    • Syncovery Service (Superflexible)

It is probable that only one of the above caused the problem, but since the update has now successfully installed, I've not had the opportunity to determine which one by enabling them one at a time.
Perhaps someone else can narrow down the culprit and report back.
    Hope this helps. ~Speedwaystar

Aaaand that's why I love these forums. This worked for me, thank you! Disabled all non-MS services, installed KB4103721 and rebooted, and Windows booted normally.

Same here. I clean installed with 1803. Only had a couple issues and I was able to fix them without much trouble. The one that took the most time was sharing over the network. Set those two Function Discovery services to automatic (delayed start), started them and fixed that issue. Running great here on 1803.

Same here. One of the smoothest Feature updates and updates ever for me. Updated everything from Windows update.
