I have updated the tutorial below to add Options 3 and 4.

If you disable Windows Feedback Notifications, it will set "Feedback frequency" to "Never" and can't be changed.

Is there anyway to delete an update that's already been downloaded and requires a restart. Without doing the restart?

I was able to get one of my system's back using system restore, but it has the 1803 update ready and I can't pause it. I have the "some systems settings are managed by your organiztion" above the update so it won't let me pause.

The fix for that warning (which doesn't make any sense) is to reboot...so I'm caught in an endless reboot, apply update, restore loop.

Can some one start a new thread that addresses these issues? Please Brink.

    TheMany,
    Please start a new thread.
There are commands that may improve or fix the problem.

    DISM /image:B:\ /cleanup-image /revertpendingactions

Thanks, zbook. I'll check that out once I finish up some production later today. You've been a great help.

    Could I just do the
    del C:\Windows\WinSxS\cleanup.xml
    del C:\Windows\WinSxS\pending.xml

as listed in the bottom of the article? (eventhough I'm on Win 10)

I built a "Windows to Go" SSD drive with 1803 a few days ago (changed Firefox's User Agent to look like a MAC to get the ISO with "install.wim" so Rufus could do the build.)

Today I fired it up in my HP laptop and got the update - went from .1 to .48.

Rebooted and got the black screen at sign on. Ctrl-Alt-Del to sign off, powered down at the sign on screen. Fired it up again and when the lock screen came up, I just let it sit there for about 1/2 hour. Drive lights were flashing most of the time. Finally hit enter and signed on successfully.

It looks like at least some of the problems causing the black screen are because it really hasn't finished updating.

I have no intention of updating (debugging?) 1803 on my main machine or the internal drive on the laptop.

That's another option and I may try that with my render system after it's finished later today. I'll report back.

    Hi folks
Isn't the use of flash being discouraged --security issues etc.
    If it's a depreciated feature I can't see what's wrong with a manual install.

Just my take on it though - as there probably a zillion and one websites out there still relying on it.

    Cheers

I have Flash disabled on Edge and IE11 and I haven't run into any problems with webpages not loading properly yet. I also had it disabled in Opera when I was still using that for the better part of a year. I think that Google and Adobe publicly putting the nails in Flash's coffin really helped accelerate the move away from it, but I'm sure there are many legacy pages out there still. That said, I think it would still be in users' best interests for MS to keep pushing the updates out until it is "officially" depreciated (which is 2020 if I remember correctly).

So...after I applied this update, my laptop always says "update and shutdown/update and restart" when I want to shutdown or restart. I rebooted three times and it is still saying this. (the update applied the first time I restarted).

I am currently at v1803 Build 17134.48 so what'd the deal?

    Anyone else have this issue?
