Keep your eight years old Atom netbooks safe, they will be soon the only computers without the following label.
I was quite surprised that the microcode updates for Spectre from MS still don't even cover all the chips Intel has supposedly released updates for, let alone the ones Intel isn't even bothering to provide updates for. It looks like there will be a large number of systems out there, particularly from OEMs that aren't great at releasing BIOS updates, that will probably never get a performant fix. The majority of those "eight years old Atom netbooks" from Chinese OEMs will probably never see a fix, for example.

xtcrefugee: Luckily there are systems which
    - do not include Intel Management Engine
    - do not include processor containing Speculative Execution optimization
so they are not vulnerable neither to IME backdoor nor Meltdown/Spectre vulnerability. One example: netbook Asus EEE PC 1005PG (which I own) and variants. Yes it is incredibly slow but runs any x86/x64 client OS. In conjunction with Mint Cinnamon, in is (unfortunately) the only one of my four home systems which I consider to be trusted.
