Windows 10: Mozilla CEO slams Microsoft over Windows 10 browser defaults

All Mozilla has to do is update Firefox so it pops up with instructions how to change the default. Microsoft has made it very clear that they are trying to "idiot-proof" Windows 10, and that includes making sure that "SuperDuper Antivirus 2015" can't change the browser to "SuperDuper Browser" with default search page SuperDup.ru without the user's informed knowledge.

That exactly the problem. They would have to make a specialized Firefox and unbranded version for windows 10. The reason the current install works on a lot of windows operating systems not just windows 10. A lot of open source and limited open source won't change the coding to work with windows 10. You would have the same issue with most other browsers.

I'm not sure what the problem is, anyone who's used Windows for any decent length of time will use Edge to download Firefox if that's their browser of choice and never fire up Edge again. Just because MS makes Edge the default (it's their OS after all) doesn't mean to say everyone is forced to use it.
    +1
    10-4 Good Buddy!
    Three cheers!!!

It's only a few mouse clicks, between Edge being the default browser and making Firefox your default browser.
Anyone who's been working with Windows for any length of time at all, should have already made up their own mind, as to what programs they want on their PC and what browser they want to use.
TIP: All those programs should already be on a flash drive or CD.

When I upgraded to Win-10 on my (several) laptops, I had already installed Firefox and made it my Default Browser.
In Windows 10, I clicked the start button, then Settings, then System, then Default Apps......scroll down to Web Browser and then select "Firefox". Job done, just X out of the window.

I don't understand all the angst! Any defaults you don't like, can be changed.
I personally change over a dozen defaults when setting up any version of Windows.

    Cheers mates!

It's like one line of code, and maybe some html. It's not like it's a bloody port.

The problem is it is more difficult in Windows 10 to change the default browser. In Windows 7 within Firefox or Chrome you could choose to make it the default browser from within the browser. Now you have to go outside the browser into Microsoft settings to change the defaults. Also when I upgraded to Windows 10 from Windows 7 where I had Firefox as my default browser the migration did not keep that preference and If you choose the default setup preferences it will make Edge the default browser.
That is exactly what I have found.

    LOL

My room mate got 10 and he joked that Microsoft is watching W10 users every move and are quite disappointed to see that my roomie just installed W10 and the first thing he did was to download Google Chrome.

Which actually is somewhat true, the first thing he did download was Chrome then he closed Edge and it's not likely to ever be opened again. Just like with me, Edge had it's shot at wowing me but it still felt like not ready for prime time release so it's not likely that I'll ever bother to open Edge again unless I'm forced to for some site.

And you don't think Google doesn't track everything you do with their products? They're even worse.
