What method did you try? Windows update? MCT Upgrade now? MCT ISO setup.exe? If you already mentioned it, my apologies, thread is long so its easy to miss stuff.
    I tried everything possible...

But the last thing I tried was a thumb drive and booting to it thru Advanced startup, and it seems my advanced recovery was corrupted some how.
I could have created a new one, but it's a PITA as I need to create a .wim file and place it in C:\Windows\System32\Recovery

By the way Kerry, I didn't have to do a "clean install", but the next best thing: I disconnected my other internal disks, then I mounted the usb in File Explorer, and ran setup, but this time selected to NOT keep programs and settings, and the update succeeded

Of course I now need to set everything up again, but I'll make an image before installing the media pack

unfortunately both tries didn't fix the issue.. neither the repair, nor the 2017 packages.. after restarts, nothing changed
    I keep having this popup!
Try to install all-in-one setup. What it does:
    - Before installation, the script will check and remove existing non-compliant Visual C++ Runtimes, including the original EXE or MSI setups, or older MSI packages versions.

    - The uninstallation option/script will remove any detected VC++ runtimes (except UCRT).
    Code:

@Cliff S, you may be interested to know I've found another example of WinRE being corrupt in 1803 as released on 30th, in this case only the 32-bit version is broken (x64 is OK).

Attempting to restore any system image by booting to Advance Startup from the installed Windows or from an 1803 (x86) install USB and using 'Troubleshooting > System Image Recovery' also fails with the same RPC server error.
1803 creating a system image fails with RPC server error 0x800706BA

I'm not sure if I am extremely lucky that I've not seen much bugs on my personal computer on this, but after 5 days of helping a few users… Gheez… I can't believe how darn buggy this build is. The Windows toolbar and UI is all wonky, especially in the security center. Recovery partitions are signed a drive letter now, hidden drive partitions (EFI) are warning about no disk space, Chrome is freezing, Cortana is freezing, graphics drivers are resetting after sleep/hibernation, drivers are incompatible, touchscreens and pads are broken and/or reset… And this is just a small fraction of what I've noticed for just a few days. And these are recurring aswell. Honestly, here I thought Microsoft was sensible when they delayed it due to a blocking bug, but this though… I know things can get broken when upgrading, but this is puke. This update should be removed from WU and pushed to May and be called the Mayday Update.

Yep, I totally agree. A lot is broken in this build and it should not have been released to the public.

1803 already turned out to be 1805, I guess MS did not want to wait for it to become 1809.

This is the first 10 I had BSOD during setup and after setup. My laptop boots only 2 out of 3 startups.

And yet I, and several others, have had zero problems. You'd think that with all the telemetry MS sucks down they'd be able to figure out some common denominators. Many have said that MS ought to take at least one 6 month update cycle and forget about new features, and really bear down on getting things rock solid. I totally and utterly agree. Doing anything with Windows 10 feels like a crapshoot. Things that were working fine simply stop working. When you go looking for answers, you find 20 different suggested solutions, none of which work. It becomes clear that no one knows what is going on. Windows has become too complex for MS to comprehend. Time to get serious about getting this mess into a trustworthy condition.

In any case, you shouldn't have to be thinking "I wonder what will break this time" at 6 month intervals. This is absurd and unacceptable.
