Probably not if you have to change it but M.2 and SATA SSDs can coexist.

I would still keep that 860 too, I use my old SATA ssd still after installing Samsung 960 evo. I was using it at first to hold W7 but now only to install games on it instead on 2 other HDDs.

Got an 860 for my second machine yesterday. Its quite a performer.

Marginal, I wouldn't bother going from a 960 to 970 unless you have disposable income.
