    Just a stupid question... have you checked with the Sandy Bridge manufacturer for a BIOS update? The same applies to Toshiba for the Haswell 306C3 and get rid of the stupid MS updates?

    This PC is not on the Toshiba list for an update - in fact Tosh don't even support Windows 10 on it! I've had to get Network and Bluetooth drivers for that reason, but it's been working very well with Win 10 through all its iterations after I updated from Win 7

    Then my suggestion is to uninstall the update, to at least save the performance, if it is fairly noticeable.

    Then since Toshiba has dropped it, I would suggest to take a look here. These guys are pretty good with revision codes and updates. They also have the tools to update the microcode on your own (dangerous stuff though, if you're not comfortable with those things and xtra-xtra-xtra careful, as you can very easily brick your PC!)

    Sorry for not been able to help you more. Good luck!

    @ddelo
    I was just checking on the Tosh site but this PC isn't even mentioned any more!
    Then I looked at the fact that I purchased it in 2011 and i'm really not surprised.

    I shall uninstall the update just for tidiness as the performance was slightly affected by the (successful) Meltdown patch, (and return to the restore point i made about 6 hours ago) but I shan't be trying Fernando's forum for the very reason you warned me about!

    As far as i have heard, Spectre hasn't been found "in the wild", browsers are all updated so I feel that there is less risk leaving it as it is.

    However, thank you very much for spending all this time with me - I do appreciate it. Think i need a

    If any other forum members have any helpful suggestions, I'm all ears.

    Yup - to be pedantic a L755-13K and it's not even on the main Tosh site any more as I said to @ddelo. As I also said, I don't think Spectre has been found in the wild, has it?
