Has anyone with the crash actually opened a PDF with Edge, using the Open With context menu option, then see if it still crashes?

I wonder what the common denominator is among the various people experiencing this problem.

(BTW, is that a Sumatran Tiger in your avatar?
    lol. It could be.

Seems to be just having SumatraPDF installed. I tried installing Foxit Reader and it worked fine. Both with Foxit as default and Edge as default. With SumatraPDF installed the "Set defaults by app" panel crashes.

Though some have reported the crash without having SumatraPDF installed, this would still seem an important clue - have you reported it in Feedback?
I would, but the feedback hub consistently opens in my local language (Dutch), which is a barren wasteland of tickets. I want to report on the main English hub...

Anyhow, the bug is probably related to any installed app that somehow doesn't register itself as a default handler for file types in a way that Microsoft likes. Even when I install SumatraPDF but not register it as default PDF handler, the settings app still crashes.

Just not having MS defaults is not the cause of the issue: I have Chrome and VLC as defaults without any issues.

What would you call an issue caused by some improperly written code without proper integrity checks that are only affecting a few systems causing an application crash? I am asking because I really don't know what else to call it except a BUG. :)
The term "bug" was used in an account by computer pioneer Grace Hopper, who publicized the cause of a malfunction in an early electromechanical computer.[8] A typical version of the story is:
In 1946, when Hopper was released from active duty, she joined the Harvard Faculty at the Computation Laboratory where she continued her work on the Mark II and Mark III. Operators traced an error in the Mark II to a moth trapped in a relay, coining the term bug. This bug was carefully removed and taped to the log book. Stemming from the first bug, today we call errors or glitches in a program a bug.[9]
Hopper did not find the bug, as she readily acknowledged. The date in the log book was September 9, 1947.[10][11][12] The operators who found it, including William "Bill" Burke, later of the Naval Weapons Laboratory, Dahlgren, Virginia,[13] were familiar with the engineering term and amusedly kept the insect with the notation "First actual case of bug being found." Hopper loved to recount the story.[14] This log book, complete with attached moth, is part of the collection of the Smithsonian National Museum of American History.[11]
The related term "debug" also appears to predate its usage in computing: the Oxford English Dictionary's etymology of the word contains an attestation from 1945, in the context of aircraft engines.[15]

You and Josey are both running Firefox nightly… try changing (just for test ) default browser, and try app settings again
I'm not running FF nightly, Andre, and I have it. So, I don't think that's where the bug originated.

Weirdly enough, uninstalling SumatraPDF fixed this for me.

Verified by re-installing it to see if I could replicate the crash, and yep.
I've never had that one installed, so I don't know what to say except I still have it. So, maybe we need to uninstall all third party apps to figure out which one(s) it is? :)
