Thanks swarfega but have tried all kinds of troubleshooting. At least now it's not 'stuck' in the date and time of updating.

Installing at 18% now. Crossing everything

Go dammit it's preparing to install again, second time. If this fails, might leave it overnight, then will delete the whole distribution folder in safe mode.

Now shows installing at 4% .... need a stiff drink

Wow gone up to 5% and a lot slower than original. You've got to love Windows eh?

Goes up to 25% installing and initialises again and back to preparing to install. Humph.
