You can use DISM to analyse the component store to see if there's anything to clean up.

Analyze Component Store (WinSxS folder) in Windows 10
Actual Size of Component Store : 7.49 GB
Shared with Windows : 5.69 GB
Backups and Disabled Features : 1.41 GB
Cache and Temporary Data : 383.33 MB
    Date of Last Cleanup : 2018-04-10 06:52:46
Number of Reclaimable Packages : 0
Component Store Cleanup Recommended : No

I also tried using the extended disk cleanup with cmd.exe /c Cleanmgr /sageset:65535 & Cleanmgr /sagerun: 65535 but that didn't manage to delete any update files either.

On a hunch I checked for the QualityCompat key in the registry and found it was gone. Added it back in via a file and the update installed with no problems. Per a thread at Malwarebytes forum I'd say that until MS gets this sorted out, I'll be reinstalling the key before every month's update.

If you have Malwarebytes set to register in the Windows Defender Security Center as the AV it will auto set that key. It has 3 options, Let it decide to register, auto set and always set. I have it to always set and it keeps the QualityCompat key set for me.

Just updated automatically with no issues. System is running Malwarebytes v3.4.5.2467 Premium Trial. I will let that expire when the trial is done.

Yes I know, but that disables Windows Defender and I want both to run which was prior not a problem.

Not a problem. I've considered going only with MBAM but I'm a worry wort and like all the protection one can get. :)
