The thought processes of developers can often appear strange...

One possible reason for this strange anomaly could be that as Restore Points are used for some tasks by the system, an upgrade will set the default to on, as is the case with other options resetting.

However, if the Restore points are on at the upgrade point and thus contain data, this data should not be restored to the new system as they could overwrite items which are different in the upgraded system. The upgrade will therefore switch the option off (deleting the old restore point ), to prevent potential issues in future.

It would also not surprise me that a command to switch restore Points to ON was included in the first update after the Upgrade, just to set things as they should be
Nah - I believe it is simply Occam's Razor principle (simplest answer is usually the correct one). I think MS have just changed the default from off to on.

    Hi,

I think MS have just changed the default from off to on.
Not for any of my installs they haven't.

On my installs the restore point was set to "ON" with this build.

in this and previous builds, in settings, default applications, define defaults by application -crashes and exits out. worked fine in same install of 16299, nothing else changed. see if you can replicate, as I don't have access to feedback hub.(maybe the setting is called slightly different for you, my OS language is not English)

Same here, ER. Have you filed feedback? If so, give me the link and I'll upvote.

I don't have any problems with default apps. I changed a few just to test, but no crashes. Jfyi.
I've also tried setting define defaults by application, and it worked just fine. I've got no problems with this at all. So it might not be a build thing, rather something not getting along in you guys computers.

Another one with "off" setting here. And it was off before.

    Restore Point

Mine was on before the installation of 17133 and off after the install. It is always one of my first checks to set it on after the install. It is never turned off for any install of the regular 16299 releases. I don't think the Fall Creator's Update turned it off.

This is interesting on Github UUPDUMP!

It suggests RTM is going very soon - tomorrow?

Just checked size of downloads using either link, and both were identical to the last byte. Obviously no difference yet. I reckon github is just getting ready.
