Ah, the weekly cumulative update for W10. I think I spend more time maintaining W10 than any other version since V3.1.

    Ditto. Really irritating.

Microsoft has lost the plot....this over development with its bloated utilities which 99% of users will never use....has now turned into a resource hogging monster, requiring 750 mb updating each week....and all this when a new NS4 will be released soon.
More available utilities = more to go wrong....It would be nice to select what we need and be able to delete all the unwanted crap.

Yes, we need more selectivity. I use only a little of their utilities.
    Yes.
I am just a regular home user, and I have 3 laptops, one Intel Compute Stick and 2 Surface tablets. And I also have a Samsung Galaxy Tab A.
Lately, I have been asking myself....... What happened ? How did I get into this ? How did I get myself enslaved by these never ending updates ? I must be out of my mind.
Time to sell off most of my devices.

Sounds like most of us are fed up with the constant updates. If it’s not cumulative updates then it’s office updates. Constant native app updates via the store. Add to this twice yearly feature updates. Then there’s all the other stuff, we have iOS devices in the house and every time the wind changes these get updates. Then there’s steam updates, Mozilla updates, origin updates, Xbox updates, PS4 updates, etc etc. Spend more time updating than using our household tech. I wish the whole tech industry would slow down

I have just "Checked for Updates" three times and never seen this new KB4089848. I am wondering if it is destined to everyone. I will wait another 24 hours before going after the standalone package from Microsoft Update catalog.

I think I won't receive this update, as per usual.

I've been using Windows 10 EDU for a few years now, and I've taken full advantage of Group Policy, setting Configure Automatic Update to Notify for download and autoinstall and No auto restart-with logged users (...) to Enabled.

I've also disabled the option to have Windows download updates from WAN or LAN.

That being said, I've always received notification for Cumulative Updates, and I've always been able to download them thorough WU.

However, for a few months now I am not receiving notification about Cumulative Updates. Notifications and downloads for Windows Defender, Flash Player, Malware removal tool are all working tho.

Digging into my memory I've come to the conclusion that the only change I've made before the appearance of the problem is a further edit to GP: Do not include drivers with Windows Update set to Enabled.

I've tried turning that do Disabled, with no luck.
Since then I've always installed and downloaded CUs with standalone packages, and it doesn't bother me that much.

What annoys me is the fact I don't understand why the OS has this behavior.

I've also purposely avoided to download kb4088776, to see if time was the only problem, but as today I've not received any notification. With the new CU kb4089848 live, I think time is not the problem.

    Any help would be appreciated

After I posted my last reply, I went to check for updates.
Didn't take long to download/install. Restart is required.
