Nobody 'owns' English - and anyway even so-called British English, in all its variety of dialects, is now very much a moving target in terms of its definition. The contraction of what were two words to one has led to utter confusion - clearly visible even on shop fronts now. Few can be upfront (was 'up front') about whether they can distinguish what they do everyday - or should it be every day? Most banking sites have Log out confused with Logout, not to mention log in with login. Same goes for back up (or is that backup?). I suppose we'll end up saying 'He backupped me'.

Pronunciation is changing too.. I've go' a lo' uv bo'les. [I've got a lot of bottles] (t's are often not said - even - terrible! - by some TV presenters on the BBC!). Words like extraordinary are adding a 'sh' sound to become exshtraordinary.

It has reached a point where some foreign speakers of English have far 'better' pronunciation than many native Brits.

And of course there are so many other varieties of English... not to mention.. American forms of English if I dare put it like that. American forms are appearing much more commonly in Britain.. once we would never have said- and I never would- 'I'm good, thanks'. But people do now.

Maybe they should go the same route as Office? Office 2016, Windows 2018? Been wondering why the 10 hasn't been dropped by now. When asked what Version of Windows are you running, saying Windows 10 doesn't really cut it anymore. Even if you say 10 Home, 10 Pro. Your going to be asked what build, which for some brings on the deer caught in the headlights look, lol.

That would work, and should be simple enough for everybody to comprehend and remember. :)

In South Louisiana we don't use Fall and Spring.

It's Hunting Season and Fishing Season.
