I thought that as well.

The end user isn't going to be able to install any drivers so I can see why this is becoming a mode, and only available preinstalled. The OEM and or IT person will have to do all that in Manufacture Mode. Once you exit Manufacture Mode your back being locked out of installing anything other than approved store apps. When I did my test run on my backup desktop windows update didn't install any video driver. I was left with the standard driver , low screen res, and only single monitor support. Trying to install my NVidia driver manually was blocked.

Not sure what apps they have in the store these days, I don't use any except the mail app which I'm trialing at the moment. There must be App versions of notepad, and the other "essentials" if not yet available then in development

I think we'll see a complete switch to the settings that are replacing more and more set-up applets in the main versions.

What does actually worry me a fair bit is the way that OEM suppliers will handle this "option" are we going to see the cheaper end of laptops etc having Home S installed rather than Windows 10 Home. It gives the OEM the chance to fully control (and maybe Brand), the OS at a low cost to themselves

Been wishing everything would "finally" move to Settings for a while now. Finish what you started already.

The few apps I use are the XBOX App, calculator, and snipping tool. Assuming they are in fact apps? That's a bit blurred IMHO, and hard to tell sometimes. Your just clicking a tile.

My worry would be branding you can't change. Locked out personalization settings.

The easiest way that I know of telling an App from an Application, ( I'm not stating that this is foolproof), If you right click on a Start Menu Shortcut, (tile), and then click on More ... you will see an entry for Open File Location if you are looking at a traditional Application ... this is not present on Apps.

Win 10S (mode) is a baby edition as far as I can tell... only contained apps will work ( I'm not sure what specific apps schools use.. maybe just calc, maps etc)

I created a really nice looking (GUI) UWP version of SMACC only to find that the code that it needs does not work (no registry access, no API compatibility (eg. mouse click colour grabbing) etc...
