Worked here OK with a 6700K took 1 minute exactly to install and reboot, now passes the inspectre test and the others. Painless, bet Asus now produce a bios update for it now ;o)

Yeah just installed it. Seems ok. Relieved to see my 3D mark fire strike score is still more or less same after. So presumably no need for a BIOS update now!!?? Not that one is available for ASUS z170 pro gamer since June last year anyway

Mine installed in less that 1 minute. Took longer to do the backup. INspectre shows everything in GREEN. We will now watch. Offsite backups will be starting in 10 minutes.

    Hi,

I wouldn't as it then would load a cpu micro code that does not correspond with the cpu you're running which could lead to BSODs eventually.

    Cheers,
    I'm not going to.

Was your UEFI/Bios already up to date ?

i5 6300HQ (skylake) on a HP laptop, the update installed OK, and all green with InSpectre. No UEFI/BIOS update offered via HP. Thanks Brink for the info.

    Thanks for the heads-up!

This update is not meant for Kaby Lake CPUs.

I would say that you probably still need to install it, but be sure to create a restore point and/or system image first to be extra safe.
If the MS update modifies the microcode, can this operation be reversed by restoring an image? Is the microcode in the disk?

It is the OS that loads it so, if you restore a prior image you'd need to rerun this update to be protected.
IOW, if the UEFI/Bios wasn't patched you'd again be vulnerable once you restore the image.
Assuming your image was made prior to installing this KB that is.
