    Hi,

Thanks @Brink but I do have one such device which has an up to date bios with patched MC.
GRC's InSpectre says its fully protected. Hence the question by some of our members and myself about whether or not this patch is actually needed ?

    Cheers,

I would say that you probably still need to install it, but be sure to create a restore point and/or system image first to be extra safe.

Thanks but I don’t know what skylake h/s means. I have skylake 6700k. Is that covered by this update?

    Cheers,

Just for some more info: Skylake (microarchitecture) - Wikipedia

    Skylake is available in five variants, identified by the suffixes "S" (SKL-S), "X" (SKL-X), "H" (SKL-H), "U" (SKL-U), and "Y" (SKL-Y).

SKL-S and SKL-X contains an overclockable "K" and "X" variant with unlocked multipliers.

    Hello @fdegrove, :)

If you don't have the CPUs listed in the KB4090007 article above, then you don't need the update.
So then this is useless to me .. No wonder it installed so fast.:)

    Hi,

I wouldn't as it then would load a cpu micro code that does not correspond with the cpu you're running which could lead to BSODs eventually.

    Cheers,
