    ASUS Global
Sorry, but where does it say they WON'T update older boards? I read that to say that they haven't updated them YET.
Please see the comments from my OEM in ID #128

ASUS Z97-K seems to have no problems ( not impacted) , so , for safety reasons, better wait for Bios-update ( or no updates at all ? ) " Asus won't update "older" Boards "................Z97-K , from 2016 , you call this mobo old.........??

I think ASUS is responsible if we are getting affected due these meltdown and spectre - malwares !
It seems they wont take action by updating Bios-versions from 2016 or older , big mistake ( !!) , how can we trust ASUS if they just "sit and wait " untill people get affected by spectre or meltdowns...........??
( Im very dissapointed in ASUS! )

If it's not supported by your system, it won't install...
That's not strictly the case. KB4090007 installs either the file mcupdate_GenuineIntel.dll (the Intel Microcode Library) or mcupdate_AuthenticAMD.dll as appropriate for your CPU in %windir%\System32. This appears to be a library of Intel or AMD's published microcode updates for various CPUs.

What doesn't appear to get installed would be any microcode at boot if your CPU isn't one of those listed in the library, so it's perfectly safe to install for an unsupported CPU because it won't actually do anything.

The date of the Intel Microcode Library it installed for me (replacing one dated 29 Sept 2017) was 1 Mar 2018 - which is before the date Intel's microcode for my CPU went 'Production'.

That makes sense but begs the question, "wouldn't it be better to wait to install KB4090007 until you know the correct microcode is available, otherwise the version of KB4090007 might be out of date when the code IS available?"

Rather it begs the question why haven't MS bothered to update KB4090007 for more than a month. Intel have be busy writing microcode, so why not?

By all accounts, those who have installed the preview of the Spring Creators Update did get a more up to date library, so why the delay for us still on 1709?

AsRock already updated BIOS for 9//100/200/370/X99/X299 motherboard series, it's just waiting for 8 series, maybe 6 and 7.
