Cheers but according to that app I fully protected. The fact that Microsoft haven't sent this patch through windows update tells me that they might know there are issues with it. Before that microcode update was installed there was no issues, after it was installed the latest AMD graphics driver would crash. Uninstalled that microcode update & not had any crashes today.

I had to uninstall this update as it was causing my AMD graphics driver to crash at the drop of a hat, watching a video on youtube it would crash, play quake live it would crash etc. These crashes only started after installing this update, I even tried removing the graphics driver with DDU in safe mode & installing the latest driver.
This thread is about CPU microcode update via BIOS firmware upgrade (NOT Windows update).
Maximus VIII Hero has latest BIOS version 3703 (released 2018-01-15 in notes it says intel CPU microcode update so it probably includes this fix) did you had problems with this BIOS version then downgraded to earlier BIOS and problem was fixed?

Yeah I'm running BIOS 3703 but some (not me) have had stability issues with it, BSOD, random restarts etc. I don't have issues with that BIOS. The issues for me started when I installed KB4090007 which is a skylake microcode update which messed with the AMD graphics drivers. Uninstalling KB4090007 stopped the problem for me. Apologies for posting in the wrong thread.

Don’t know how true these statements are but I’ve read the same thing from a few places

“All the spectre-related updates will be dated 2/8/2018 or later. Updates prior to these are the ones that were buggy and caused system instability, you better ignore those.”

“Any Spectre-related motherboard BIOSes will be dated 2/8/2018 or later, in other words. Earlier BIOS updates that include CPU microcode fixes are the buggy version Intel yanked. You don’t want those!”

“Once bitten twice shy” is probably the reason why Asus is not in a hurry to update the bios on these motherboards

That's why I was wondering what to do.
According to this document Intel just re-released same code for skylake CPUs
    https://newsroom.intel.com/wp-conten...e-guidance.pdf
but press tells to not trust older microcode release so I am confused.

Should I believe that pdf document from intel that older code was just re-released without changes (as it was apparently good) so older firmware (as it is same thing) should be good or believe press and wait for firmware that is released after Feb 8 2018. (This is only for Skylake CPU)

So basically Skylake CPU firmware was re released without any modifications at least that what I get from reading Intel document
    Quote from intel document
Lines with “***” were previously recommended to discontinue use. Subsequent testing by Intel has determined that these were unaffected by the stability issues and have been re-released without modification.
Skylake H/S has *** in firmware version.

    HI,
That app also says Disable protection for each threat so one wouldn't have to uninstall the melt down update.

I copied this from a poster in the ROG forum this morning:
Received Tue, Apr 17, 2018 from Asus Supportear Asus Valued Customer,Regarding the below described case, we kindly inform you that the responsible department of our HQ is informed about this issue and currently examining the possibility of a new BIOS release update.Furthermore, we would like to inform you that at the moment, Asus officially will release vulnerability fixes only for 6th, 7th and 8th generation processors. We invite you to check Asus website periodically in order for new BIOS update releases and latest information about the subject.https://www.asus.com/News/YQ3Cr4OYKd...979Furthermore, we kindly inform you that we do not have any further information regarding the possibility of new BIOS update release containing a fix/patch for ELAN touchpad and we would also like to inform you that your product has not been officially tested by Asus with any OS other than Windows OS.In case you are not satisfied by our reply above, please inform us accordingly before filling the satisfaction form.In case you are satisfied by our reply above, we invite you to select 9 or 10 as a positive evaluation.Should you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to get back in touch with

It seems to me that this CPU Vulnerability must not be quite the issue that it is being present as? I mean there are millions more pre 6th generation CPU out there and will be for years to come? I take the whole thing as it not really that much of an issue or 90% of the CPU's in the world are going to be attacked and Intel doesn't care? I guess those of us with pre 6th generation CPU may be the lucky one since we won't be experimented on with attempting to modify the microcode on our CPU????

My second comment is, it never ceases to amaze me how little Asus thinks of the customers and how poorly they run there tech support and repair stations.

I continue to purchase Asus products because when there good there great, but man any issues and your in for a nightmare getting any satisfaction from them.

Which is how I found these forums in the first place starting with the Eight Forum as no one at Asus had any clue how to make 8 work on their own computers and MB.
