thanks for info. My current issue is with 17604 on an AMD Computer — nothing Seems to work to ameliorate this issue; just took it back to previous skippy build and reinstalled 604 with no change in the sleep/shutdown behavior. I looked at system devices section of device manager to see if anything had power option; alas there is none.
Are you using payed MR ? I don't have any problems with shutdown bot not putting machine to sleep either. Our systems are almost same.

    thanks for info
I did install cbt but the registry thing was added for legacy drivers
I had tried both free which always worked and paid for which didn't with cbt installed

I hadn't been able to updaqte either machine past 16046 so did clean installs onboth one was 17101 and 17604...makes me wonder if that is why I was stuck on 16046 for so long.

I had tried the legacy registry on both of those builds but they had been attempting a new update almost every day for last month and the legacy registry didn't help....so they remained on 16046...so I gave up and reinstalled updates from isos onto clean drives

An interesting update. This solution works on my 3 computers with 17101 but not 17604. In fact, when I turn off powercfg, every time I try to restart it, it shuts down. Before, it would sleep then shut down - now when I try to awaken it - it shuts down — wired for sure. These builds are presumably identical.
Magilla, powercfg -h off isn't turning off Powercfg. It's turning off hibernation. When hibernation is turned off in this manner, Fast Startup is automatically turned off along with it.

You can use the powercfg.exe tool to control power schemes (also named power plans) to use the available sleep states, to control the power states of individual ...

I have already seen several comments in the Feedback hub about the problem with sleep, so it's a common problem in build 17604, here is one of them but there are several: https://aka.ms/Ne5phg

I have never had hibernation or fast startup activated, I think that's why I didn't experience any problem with sleep in build 17101, but in build 17604 the problem appeared from the beginning and it's not fixed with a clean installation.

To to those who have been effected, are we saying that "powercfg -h off" has better success than turning these off manually? 25

From an earlier problem where mine would not boot after shutdown, turning fast start up "off" worked for me today. Something I will have to do after each new build even thought MS "recommends" fast start up be checked.
Not necessarily, Meebers. Like you, I only turned off Fast Startup by unchecking its checkbox; however it doesn't work with all systems, while Powercfg -h off works with other systems. I believe you need to turn off hibernation with the Powercfg command, rather than just uncheck its box. I was given the Powercfg solution by @simrick (after I'd turned off Fast Startup) and then later found it in the Feedback Hub.

The person who first posted the "Turn off Fast Startup" solution said there's a bug in it. I don't know if that's true, but it worked for me and now, seemingly you. :)

Leo, so far, I haven't had any issues with sleep. Normally, I just leave Microsoft's default settings alone (except for Cortana and Edge), but for some odd reason, with both 17093 and 17101, I had the no-boot issue while sleep worked just fine. Go figure ...
