It should normally be on the Settings > Update & security page.

I restarted my computer and tried using Defender again. The quick scan ran without any noticeable problems. When I tried a custom scan on a large folder my computer became unusable. The way Defender is working I have my doubts about it really working.

Good to know you're able to boot once more, Bordi! Next time (and there will be a next time for something), try every solution that's posted, whether you think it can help or not. Sometimes help is just a keystroke away. :)
It was only the not waking from sleep issue which we’ve had before, nothing serious.

Had it been the issue of not being able to boot, then I would have tried any and every suggestion as I used to do with my old motherboard.

    Thanks again :):):)

Oh, I see! Amazing how unexpectedly some things work, although I think I remember turning off hibernation was a solution for sleeping computers. :)

You're welcome. I don't come up with a whole lot of help, and this was a compilation of others' suggestions, so ...

An interesting update. This solution works on my 3 computers with 17101 but not 17604. In fact, when I turn off powercfg, every time I try to restart it, it shuts down. Before, it would sleep then shut down - now when I try to awaken it - it shuts down — wired for sure. These builds are presumably identical.

To to those who have been effected, are we saying that "powercfg -h off" has better success than turning these off manually?

From an earlier problem where mine would not boot after shutdown, turning fast start up "off" worked for me today. Something I will have to do after each new build even thought MS "recommends" fast start up be checked.

In addition, those with Intel machines might try a trick that on my laptop resolves all sleep / hibernation / shut down / restart issues: disable this option in Intel Management engine:

For reasons totally unknown to me, if enabled my machine does not wake up from sleep or hibernation, shut down correctly or restart correctly (shut down leaves fans on, restart shuts down).

Each upgrade / clean install enables the power saving option, I need to manually disable it every time.
