17604 installed in a jiffy (7 minutes) from word Restart, works good. Made an ISO, run system checks and disk cleanup. I was going to copy windows.old to another disk but it wouldn't let me even from W7 installation.
System Restore was turned off this time but all other settings I have seen by now are left intact except for old volume control and stupid arrows on desktop icons.
So far, so good. Now on to exploration, lousy weather outside and 2 kittens on my lap.
Seems unlike me 17604 is a heavy sleeper, it wouldn’t wake up just by a shake of the mouse.
I had to do it from the on and off switch
Updated...zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz time taken 1 hour 35 minutes.
Noted during the installation a note appearing on screen "Updating System"...CPU perhaps?
Alright! Let's see if these builds want to install on my ancient hardware...
Update: I already see I won't be able to install Skip Ahead to RS5. Requires to install 17093.1000 first (which I can not install). I have 17083.1000 atm...
Scannow states all in order....Timeline still not working for me, still brings up New Desktops.
now got 2 driver problems
1st known and ongoing - keeps throwing in the wrong driver
2nd
intel HD driver with a code 39
screen resolution looked wrong on reboot, tried updating failed 0x8024ce27
revert to basic MS driver - good then 2 minutes later it tried to update failed
screen resolution still wrong
checked Asus website - driver failed
- specs showed resolution as being 15.6" 16:9 (1366 x768)
Seems like MS throws the wrong RECOMMENDED resolution 1024 x 768
changed resolution
Display is fine now
still have driver error and its associated Security Centre device performance error
Roy
Problem 2 fixed
