On your computers downloading build 17101 what ring were they on? The reason I'm asking is because I have two computers on different rings but they both downloaded build 17604.
Mine is on the fast ring and downloading 17101.

Fast ring downloading 101; skip ahead loading 604.

Mine was set on Fast Ring and downloaded 17604. I was surprised when it stared to download and checked to be sure. No doubt it was set on Fast Ring but downloaded 17604.

My first attempt GSOD at 97% installing with SYSTEM_SERVICE_EXCEPTION. mwac.sys shown as the culprit. Uninstalled MalwareBytes 3.4. Restarted the update and it completed in 50 minutes.

My laptop did the same thing. I wonder if it is a fluke or if it was because at one time my laptop was on the Skippy Ring.

Updated fine on fast ring, but the Windows Update panel did something odd after the initial phase (download, etc): it never told me to restart. It just said something like "All up-to-date."

I clicked in "View update history" and saw mention of 17604 there, and it said "pending restart."

Odd. OK, so I restarted, but it quickly rebooted into 17093.

So I went back into WU, did a "Check for updates," and about a minute later the Reboot button was presented.

Maybe the concurrent Windows Defender update threw it off, but it's never done this before and there usually is one waiting.

I was on the Fast Ring at one time but that was a long time ago. It could be a fluke because most people downloaded the correct build.
