Today I made a final attempt to getting Build 17101 installed.

    First I tried normal WU
Then I tried upgrading from ISO
Then I tried Clean install from ISO
Finally I tried repairing the install

All methods failed with same SYSTEM THREAD EXCEPTION NOT HANDLED

The final repair attempt ended up in a boot->memory dump loop that occur straight at boot with same exception code as before.

    I give up...

EDIT: Almost forgot...tried this in Hyper-V, VirtualBox using different virtualization methods and in VMWare. Same results.
Have you tried installing it in a virtual hard drive on another pc and porting vhd to your current pc. Might get round the problem?

No, because that will absolutely NOT work. Since RS4, I have only been able to install in a virtual machine. Now that possibility is gone too.

How can you be 100% certain it will absolutely not work?

I have created vhds on other pcs and ported them before. You could go one step further and sysprep the installation.

Seems to me it is worth a try?

I've tried everything on all my devices, RS4 simply refuse to install.

I refuse to purchase new hardware, just so that I could test Windows builds. I would have to purchase a new Windows license too, which in my opinion is not worth it's price for something that is in Beta state even as RTM version.

Based on Feedback for issues in the latest builds, it is not worth exploring any further. Too many issues at the moment. Maybe next build will install.

MS changed something in the core of Windows, which they should have done and fixed in early stages of RS4, not just before release date. There is not even a public log of what they have changed, except for all the bling bling features, which mostly I can't use anyways or does not improve productivity nor stability in any way.

One can only wait and see what happens upon official release, it wouldn't be first time when many users would have to wait few month to get it because of some compatibility issues.

    Yep!

It just surprises me how often MS breaks things just because they use old codebase when they introduce new features/bugs. One would think they would use a stable and compatible code base as reference before they start adding new stuff. But no, they decide to use something that does not work and is filled with bugs and add new features with even more bugs.

How on earth are they able to track all the problems when every code layer is filled with some issues? I mean what is the point in using code that has been marked as buggy 20 years ago, when all kinds of fixes has already been applied?

Backward compatibility I would think. They could make much better OS if they didn't have to worry about backward compatibility for HW and SW.

I could upload my working Hyper-V VM if you like for you to download and try as a .vmcz format?

Thanks for the offer. Highly appreciated. :)

However I will wait for the next build to see if that one runs on my hardware.
