    Hi,

Modern machines tend to use less power than older ones. To me a 1500VA UPS is more than ample. I can even hook up several desktop pc's to that without any problem at all.

That said, the powergrid is pretty stable across most of Europe nowadays.

I usually flash the bios of my machines from within the bios itself. Much less chance of anything interfering there.

    Cheers,
Well, it depends on what you use the machine for....

And I want ample time to be able to do things like send me alerts via SMS, email, and power down my machines with ample time before the battery runs out (I typically set it for a high threshold so that there is still a lot of power left for the networking equipment during extended outages - which, TBH, has been well over a year now, in the seriously wicked ice storms from late 2015 - early 2016 we experienced here.

    Hi,

On APC here as well. Great stuff that.

    Cheers,
Agreed. I can't ever see me running any other UPS.

I have probably only flashed about a dozen and a half BIOS altogether. One (Dell) went south on me. I've been gun shy ever since.
I can understand that. All it takes is once.

Finally got a BIOS update today that seems to have fixed mine, at least according to InSpectre.

I have BIOS/UEFI fixes in for 2 separate Sandy Bridge (7 year old) laptops and a newer Haswell server from Lenovo. They also committed to providing updates for an older Wolfdale system soon.

Gigabyte is disappointing me with a Haswell MB. No word, no feedback - nada.

I hope they keep that commitment on the Wolfdale processors. I have a Wolfdale PC from 2008, and it has proven completely fine for modern-day web browsing and the like since I swapped in an SSD several years ago. I'm guessing Intel decided to work with MS to update any CPU that's supported by the current Windows 10 release.
