Sure enough, I opened System Properties dialog, System Protection tab, and it is turned off for all drives (which, normally, is off for all drives except the System drive).

Anyone else see / notice this upon install of 83 / any Insider build?
Yeah, system protection was invariably turned off on my system until the last 2 or 3 updates. But it has survived the recent updates, including 17083, all done via WU. Apparently one of those things where YMMV

I have given up using System Restore. Only time I ever really used it if doing "stuff" with registry or installing some new unknown program to test.

I now just make an incremental Macrium Reflect backup (I use Home paid version) before doing any changes. You can make a differential backup if using Free version instead.

Then I can roll back to save state in matter of a few minutes. Free version would take longer as it does not have Rapid Delta Restore.

Yeah, I think that's the way to go; System Restore is OK for simple stuff, but not nearly as powerful as Macrium.

I agree system restore is nowhere on the level of an image but it has got me out of a hole a few times. Most commonly when one of the native apps hoses up for some unknown reason. I can’t believe with each feature update it gets switched off by default by MS. it should be on by default even if only using 1%. Or MS should at least respect the users choice and not turn it off when doing a major update.

What is exact status of HomeGroups now?

According to 17063 blogs, it is going to be retired for next release except looking in this build, they are still seem to be there looking in network and sharing menus.
