Anyone On Insider Preview 17083 Windows Defender just stop working all of a sudden? don't think any infection, as really didn't do too much on that system, installed a few games off Steam, didn't get a chance to play them though, got busy, went back to PC later, to check something, and Defender wasn't responding right, upvoted other posts on Feedback hub, then shutdown Insider PC for the night

Yes, it's a common problem in this build, Microsoft already knows:

Not here, Andre. Mine is around 13%. Don't know what that would be with 24GB RAM, though.
    Thanks for input.
    restart time perhaps

    OK.

I just woke up this morning and have been furiously troubleshooting my own issue with 3.3.x that has never happened before.

MB Service was using over 9 GB of RAM and my system was completely unresponsive. Used the reset button to hard reboot, and after I watched the RAM usage again climb as soon as I was logged in - over 1 GB in the first minute, over 2 30 seconds later.

I'm going to post over there without uninstalling to see if they can quickly find the issue.

And, again, this is on FCU, not an Insider build.

Also, upon the first reboot web protection refused to enable, but that was the least of my concerns lol....
After hearing about the problem and fix for the latest update yesterday I decided to give Malwarebytes 3.3.1 another try. I'm still on the free version and so far it's been trouble free. I'm going to activate it with my license key and see what happens. If the problem returns I'll try turning off things one at a time and see if I can isolate what's causing the problem.

    Edit:
I selected Never register Malwarebytes features in the Windows Action Center and tried putting the computer in sleep mode. The monitors went into sleep mode and the computer stayed running. I had to hit the restart button. Then I tried turning off Web Protection, Exploit Protection, Malware Protection, and Ransomeware Protection. The computer went into sleep mode and woke without any problems. Now this is the part that is confusing me. I turned everything back on one at a time and sleep mode worked every time. I'm going to try a restart and see what happens.

Edit #2 Restarted the computer and sleep mode is still working. I'm going to guess that it must of had something to do with the Windows Action Center setting.

That might have been a one off - or it might simply have been that your system wanted a reboot after installing before testing sleep mode...or it may be a real problem.

I know I've had my (un)fair share of issues with sleep mode on this legacy beast, so I may start playing around with it - I install MB with completely default settings, letting it take control in the Action Center, but I also use @Porthos' thread from MB on setting up exclusions between defender and MB: Exclusions for Windows Defender users. - Malwarebytes 3 - Malwarebytes Forums

But now that you've given me an inkling as to why this might be on the fritz on my machine - and TBH, I never even suspected MB to be causing an / contributing to the issue - I always though it was Fast startup, because disabling it usually fixed my issues, until I stopped using sleep mode (winter time, on PC = warmer room )

Did it give you a warning? Freeze during a scan?

I found the on my Defender icon again after the update. Ran the wsreset command and ran the troubleshooter, which always corrects it. Upvoted and commented in the Hub.

Didn't see no warning, don't think it froze, when I looked at it it completed the scan, then I left that machine alone to do a disk defrag on the hard drive as haven't done in a while, and went to my main PC and started gaming, and usual stuff, checked the other one later, and Defender black as can be, restarted and all lol

A heads up > Defender already has Exploit Protection and has had it for quite some time. Probably should get to know your AV since it's one of the most important aspects of the Windows system.
