Intel Security Issue Update: Addressing Reboot Issues

As we start the week, I want to provide an update on the reboot issues we reported Jan. 11. We have now identified the root cause for Broadwell and Haswell platforms, and made good progress in developing a solution to address it. Over the weekend, we began rolling out an early version of the updated solution to industry partners for testing, and we will make a final release available once that testing has been completed.

We recommend that OEMs, Cloud service providers, system manufacturers, software vendors and end users stop deployment of current versions on the below platforms, as they may introduce higher than expected reboots and other unpredictable system behavior.

When I updated my BIOS, zero reboots so far, only the one times that I did it myself ofcourse!

One spontaneous reboot here, after couple of days...

HP announced today it was stopping the deployment of BIOS updates containing Meltdown and Spectre patches and reissuing older BIOS versions. HP's announcement comes after Intel issued an update to its Meltdown and Spectre advisory yesterday, Monday, January 22.

Dell was the first OEM to heed Intel's warning and today recommended that customers not install the recently issued Dell BIOS updates, even going as far as telling clients to revert back to a pre-Meltdown-and-Spectre BIOS version "in order to avoid unpredictable system behavior."

HP is the second major OEM to follow Intel's advice.

In response to Intel’s recommendation, HP is taking the following actions:

HP is removing HP BIOS softpaqs with Intel microcode patches from hp.com.
HP will be reissuing HP BIOS softpaqs with previous Intel microcode starting January 25, 2018.
Once Intel reissues microcode updates, HP will issue revised Softpaqs.

HP Reissuing BIOS Updates After Intel Meltdown and Spectre Updates

I installed a BIOS update that mentioned CPU microcode update for my new ASUS board a few days ago and it's rebooted itself a couple of times but I'm not sure if the two are related.
