I'm glad you gentlemen got that worked out. :)
IMO that's all well and fine if anyone wants to use any method to delete the .old. To each their own, but has anyone tried the Storage Sense cleaner? As Insiders I feel we should be testing these features as telemetry for MS before they release it to commoners. It's set to auto by default. Do you all turn it off? Do you like poking the roast before it's done?

Did it just get updated?
A lot of times programs that access the Internet will have to be re-allowed after a major update. I see this all the time, but especially after clean installs (which I know you don't do).
I've had that on since the build they introduced it, and it has yet to remove any Windows.old folders on my machine. I always end up manually doing it.
Yeah, come to think of it, it could be a new addon causing it to re-affirm it wants to access the Internet as well....
This build broke my C922 webcam that can't access to Settings> Camera and Microphone.
So far I've not seen Storage Sense either on FCU or Insider automatically clean my downloads folder.

Known issue with the Camera settings. See post #1.
Upgrading to 17063 or later builds sometimes causes Settings / Privacy / Microphone, Camera, etc. to flip to “disabled”, which breaks camera and microphone access. A workaround is to manually turn them back on.
Also, it states they changed how unsupported cameras are handled. Don't know if this may affect you.
"We also made some core architecture changes to the product to remove a lot of complex handling for unsupported devices and functionality that is now duplicated in core Windows operating system functionality"
Do you all have Storage Sense set to do so? There's a manual delete in there as well. It's in "Change how we free up space". Don't remember how it was set when introduced originally. Some were off by default if I remember correctly. My settings are backed up, so never a problem with CUs for it works well for me there, but never know about IPs. This time I noticed those settings were changed because saw the .old in FE. Luckily I didn't run out of space. Very close, though.
Anywho, as I mentioned before, I had 4 or 5 empty .old-s stacked up. In earlier builds I had to delete the contents, for I'm on a small SSD dual-booting. I think it was 046 when it finally deleted them all.
I'm all for a maintenance-free OS as introduced in 8 and has gotten better with time. If you all want to poke the roast that's your prerogative, of course. :)
